The 111th Street Station Restoration
Completed - May 2002
The construction fences have been removed and the final touches are being added to the now complete restoration of the 111th Street/Morgan Park train station. The building has been handsomely painted in brown tones with white roof peaks on the main structure. The new sheds are now supported by steel columns, which are masked with wood trim. The underside of the shed is painted robins egg blue. Clerestory windows now allow natural light in to the Waiting Room. We have been documenting the restoration of the station for over a year, and are thrilled to have one of our local landmarks returned to its former glory. This year also marks the 150th Anniversary of the first train on the Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Railroad between Chicago and Joliet on October 10, 1852.
