These
photographs were taken in the late 1940's by Foster Palmer
and donated to the Ridge Historical Society. They depict a long-gone era of
public transportation that disappeared in the 1950's when diesel buses
replaced the "trolley cars." In honor and in memory of Mr. Palmer
we present
these pictures.

A motorman "changes ends" at Sacramento Avenue. The cars had controls at either end, which eliminated the need to turn or "wye" the cars. The motorman would raise the trolley pole to the wire on the rear end, proceed to the front of the car, lower and lock the pole and cut in the contols for the trip east. |
